Fire claim leads to Ombudsman victory

Our client instructed us with respect to his insurance claim when his insurer denied his claim in relation to a fire accident at his business premises. The insurer claimed it was entitled to deny our client’s claim due to alleged misrepresentations and certain issues concerning the fixtures and fittings at the premises.

Following our initial advice, our client issued a claim with the Financial Ombudsman. This led to our client being interviewed by an Insurance Claim Adjuster at our firm for the purpose of quantifying our client’s claim. Our client succeeded in his claim. However, he disagreed with the amount awarded to him on the basis it did not adequately compensate his loss.

Accordingly, we further pressed our client’s matter, proposing a revised insurance settlement plan to the other insurer. The insurer conceded with the result that our client’s award amount was nearly doubled. The matter concluded successfully for our client upon the signing of the requisite Payment Mandate and Acceptance Form.
